University Library : A brief introduction

University Library UAS GKVK, was established in the year 1966-67,then the Government appoints Dr. K.C. Naik, as the first Vice-Chancellor on 12th June 1964. The university was inaugurated by Dr. Zakir Hussain, the Vice President of India on 21st Aug 1964. University has 5 constitute colleges, UAS Bangalore, College of Sericulture Chintamani, College of Agriculture Hassan, College of Agriculture V.C. Farm Mandya and College of Agriculture Chamarajanagar.

University library is a central hub of print and e-resources information centre for both faculty and students, a 5-storey building equipped with advanced RFID (radio-frequency identification) technology with self-check-in check-out of books and RFID gate. Library is also member of various consortium for accessing electronic journals like CeRa (Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture), and has also subscribed to various websites of e-journals publishers. Library is also member of OCLC Worldcat, DEAL- Indian Digital Ensemble of Agricultural Libraries, NDL- National Digital Library of India, Krishikosh, MJAS- Mysore Journal of Agricultural Sciences, John Wiley-Blackwell e-books, CRCnetBASE e-Book, Yojana and Kurukshetra journals. Library uses KOHA (18.11) Version automated software for library operations and webopac and it also uses Ezproxy to give access from outside the library's computer network to restricted-access websites that authenticate users by IP address. Library is equipped with 40 research cubicles with 10x10 sq.ft. PG students can avail this service for study and write their theses.

Library Sections: 

Reference Section: 

Reference section in library is in ground floor and it has more than 100 sitting capacity with free WiFi facility with reference books,  newspaper section, sc/st and book bank section, rare books, encyclopedias, gazetteers, uasb reports.

Circulation Section:

Circulation section in library is fully automated with RFID technology check in and check out kiosk which helps users to borrow/return the books. KOHA 18.11 version.


OPAC

Circulation Counter 

Acquisition Section:

It is responsible for the collection and procurement of materials and resources and is the place where all materials are processed, such as accession numbering, registration, classification and cataloguing. 

Periodical Section:

periodical is a publication that issues articles, etc. periodically throughout the year,the library has subscribed to numerous foreign and national newspapers and receives gifts and exchanges from various publishers and institutions. Older periodicals have undergone an archival binding process and have 3 different sections of bound volumes. The Library, with CeRa and other publishers, has subscribed to several e-journals.




e-Resource Lab:

The library is fitted with more than 40 plus WiFi and LAN network computers for internet access, where students can access the internet as well as the e-collection of libraries such as e-databases e-books, e-journals.
